Ponopterix axelrodi

Taxonomy

Ponopterix axelrodi was named by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999). Its type specimen is AMNH 43800, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Crato (AMNH collection), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large carbonate in the Crato Formation of Brazil. It is the type species of Ponopterix.

Synonyms

Ponopterix maxima was named by Bechly (2007). Its type specimen is SMNS 66332, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Crato (SMNS collection), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large carbonate in the Crato Formation of Brazil.

It was synonymized subjectively with Ponopterix axelrodi by Lee (2016) and Luo et al. (2022).
