Taxonomy
Archaeospongoprunum coyotense was named by Whalen and Carter (2002). It is not extant. Its type specimen is USNM 401880. Its type locality is SH-412-14, San Hipolito Fm, Punta San Hipolito, Baja California Sur, which is in a Pliensbachian slope sandstone/lime mudstone in the San Hipolito Formation of Mexico.
