Cirolana was named by Leach (1818) [Sepkoski's age data: K Nc R Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Cirolanidae, Cirolanoidea.

It was assigned to Isopoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cirolanidae by Feldmann et al. (2008).
