Aluta was named by Mathew (1896) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm Tojo Sepkoski's reference number: 131,885].

It was assigned to Beyrichonidae by Benson et al. (1961); to Archaeocopida by Bengtson (1992); and to Ostracoda by Sepkoski (2002).
