Mesoleuctra was named by Brauer et al. (1889). Its type is Mesoleuctra gracilis. It is the type genus of Mesoleuctrinae.
It was assigned to Plecoptera by Brauer et al. (1889); to Perlaria by Ping (1928); to Mesoleuctridae by Sinitshenkova (1987); and to Notonemouridae by Sinitshenkova (1985) and Carpenter (1992).
