Anacaena paleodominica was named by Fikáček and Engel (2011). Its type specimen is AMNH DR-10-778, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Dominican amber (AMNH coll), which is in a Burdigalian/Langhian terrestrial amber in the Dominican Republic.
