Taxonomy
Opetiala shatalkini was named by Coram et al. (2000). Its type specimen is MNEMG 2000.28, a wing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Durlston Bay, Bed DB175, Swanage (MNEMG collection), which is in a Berriasian lagoonal siliciclastic in the Durlston Formation of the United Kingdom.
