Taxonomy
Hemerobius tinctus was named by Jarzembowski (1980). Its type specimen is NHML I.9160, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil.

It was recombined as Megalomus tinctus by Makarkin (1991) and Makarkin et al. (2016).
