Antilope dama was named by Pallas (1766). It is extant.

It was recombined as Nanger dama by Lataste (1885) and Groves (2000); it was recombined as Gazella (Nanger) dama by Lydekker (1914); it was recombined as Gazella dama by Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008).
