Taxonomy
Ceratopsis was named by Ulrich (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-u O Cara-u Sepkoski's reference number: 736,855]. It is not extant. Its type is Beyrichia chambersi.

It was assigned to Quadrijugatoridae by Benson et al. (1961); to Tetradellinae by Vannier (1987); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).

L1 prolong6 par un processus ant6rodorsal de forme plus ou moins h6lico~'dale (<< sperum >> ou << speral process >> sensu Jaanusson, 1957), bord6 sur toute sa longueur ou non par une rang6e de lamelles (fimbriae) ou d'6pines. Connexion ventrale des lobes sous forme d'un 6pais bourrelet histial arrondi ou saillant (<< ridge-like histial flange >>). Collerette v61aire 6troite et concave chez les tecnomorphes, tr~s 61argie chez les h6t6romorphes et formant un dolon de taille variable le long du bord ant6rieur et/ou ventral des valves. Surface des valves g6n6ralement lisse mais parfois r6ticul6e.
