Hibbardia was named by Kesling (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give Sepkoski's reference number: 136]. It was considered unknown by Kesling (1953).

It was assigned to Beyrichiidae by Kesling (1953) and Benson et al. (1961); to Treposellinae by Tilman (1984); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
