Canis rueppellii was named by Schinz (1825) [Schinz's original spelling was doubly incorrect, employing an umlaut over the u and including one l instead of two: see Grubb 2004]. It is extant.
It was misspelled as Vulpes rueppellii by Bertram and Biewener (1990); it was recombined as Vulpes rueppellii by van Gelder (1978), Wang et al. (2008), Geraads (2011) and Burgin et al. (2018).
