Taxonomy
Tipula spinistyla was named by Alexander (1931). Its type specimen is Konigsberg 6420, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber, Konigsberg collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.
