Macronotella was named by Ulrich (1894) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m Sepkoski's reference number: 999]. It is not extant. Its type is Macronotella scofieldi.
It was assigned to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Aparchitidae by Henningsmoen (1953) and Yuan and Crasquin-Soleau (2007).
