Taxonomy
Bombus abavus was named by Heer (1867). It is not extant. Its type specimen is SN.201, an exoskeleton. Its type locality is Oeningen (Zurich collection), which is in a Sarmatian crater lake limestone in the Upper Freshwater-Molasse Formation of Germany.
