Taxonomy
Placidea was named by Schneider (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: P l P Tatr Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. Its type is Amphissites lutkevichi. It is the type genus of Placideidae.

It was assigned to Placideidae by Schneider (1956), Benson et al. (1961) and Crasquin-Soleau (1997); and to Palaeocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
