Taxonomy
Aeshna oligocenica was named by Nel (1994). Its type specimen is MNHN-LP-R.07895, a hindwing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Aix-en-Provence (Coll. Nel), which is in a Chattian lacustrine - large limestone in the Niveau du gypse d'Aix Formation of France.
