Taxonomy
Aeschna theobaldi was named by Piton (1935). Its type specimen is Coll Piton 35-35a, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Lac Chambon (Piton coll), which is in a Gelasian crater lake diatomite/volcaniclastic in France.
It was recombined as Aeshna theobaldi by Nel et al. (1994).
