Runnegarochiton modestus was named by Yü (1987). It is a 3D body fossil.
It was synonymized subjectively with Ocruranus subpentaedrus by Qian and Bengtson (1989); it was recombined as Ocruranus modestus by Vendrasco et al. (2009).
