Taxonomy
Columbella pavonina was named by Hinds (1844) [Type specimen represented by lectotype.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1844.9.23-21, a shell.

It was recombined as Columbella (Strombina) pavonina by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina pavonina by Keen (1958); it was recombined as Strombina (Strombina) pavonina by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Strombina (Lirastrombina) pavonina by Jung (1989).
