Taxonomy
Notonecta vetula was named by Zhang et al. (2012). Its type specimen is CNU-HET-GY2010001, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Yumen City (CNU 2010 collection), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - large siliciclastic in the Chijinbao Formation of China.
