Cercopithecus auratus was named by Geoffroy (1812). It is extant.

It was recombined as Trachypithecus auratus by Jablonski (2002), Osterholz et al. (2008) and Harding (2010).

Synonyms
  • Semnopithecus pyrrhus was named by Horsfield (1824). It is extant.

    It was recombined as Trachypithecus pyrrhus by Pocock (1934) and Washburn (1944); it was recombined as Pithecus pyrrhus by Chasen (1940); it was recombined as Trachypithecus cristatus pyrrhus by Hooijer (1962); it was synonymized subjectively with Trachypithecus auratus by Harding (2010).
