Columbella hirundo was named by Gaskoin (1852). It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1874.12.11.111, a shell.
It was recombined as Columbella (Atilia) hirundo by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina hirundo by Hertlein and Strong (1955); it was recombined as Strombina (Strombina) hirundo by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Cotonopsis (Turrina) hirundo by Jung (1989).
