Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria aspera was named by Sedgwick and Murchison (1840) [Sowerby in]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pleurotomaria (Gyroma) aspera by Whidborne (1896); it was recombined as Phymatopleura aspera by Amler and Heidelberger (2003) and Wagner et al. (2007); it was recombined as Dictyobembix aspera by Wagner (2023).
