Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
H. Tong et al. 2015Revised diagnosis: a species of Xinjiangchelys, with carapace length about 280 mm. Differs from all other Xinjiang- chelys spp. in the oval-shaped carapace which is clearly broadened posteriorly, with the greatest width at the level of sixth neural; and by retaining the lateral carapacial fontanelles, and rounded central fontanelle and slit-like lateral fontanelles of plastron in relatively large individuals. Additionally differs from X. radiplicatoides in that the strong radiating plications are absent from the carapace and the second to fourth vertebral scutes are as wide as long; differs from X. tianshanensis in the trapezoid first peripheral with a long contact with the first costal plate; differs from X. chowi in having the narrower bridge peripherals; differs from X. junggarensis in having a shallow and wide cervical notch, and the anterolateral peripherals that are not strongly expanded; differs from X. wusu in having a larger first marginal and a narrower first vertebral that has no contact or has a short contact with the second marginal.
