Branchipusites anthracinus was named by Goldenberg (1873). It is an impression. Its type locality is Fischbach, Rußhütte, which is in a Westphalian C lacustrine shale in the Lower Saarbrucker layer Formation of Germany.
It was recombined as Branchiopus anthracinus by Goldenberg (1877).
