Oniscina ornata was named by Goldenberg (1873). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is an impression. Its type locality is Altenwald mine, which is in a Westphalian C terrestrial shale/bituminous coal in the Lower Saarbrucker layer Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Oniscina.
