Pleurotomaria impendens was named by Sedgwick and Murchison (1840) [Pleurotomaria impendens Sowerby in Sedgwick & Murchison 1840]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Devonorhineoderma impendens by Wagner (2023).
