Daraelites girtyi was named by Plummer and Scott (1937). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wewoka Shale Station 2006, which is in a Moscovian marine shale in the Wewoka Formation of Oklahoma.
It was recombined as Boesites girtyi by Nassichuk (1975) and Work and Mapes (2009).
