Schubertella ovalis was named by Kobayashi (2011). Its type specimen is D2-033534, a test, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ak-102, section 3, Akasaka, which is in a Roadian shallow subtidal limestone in the Akasaka Formation of Japan.
