Taxonomy
Melania prisca was named by Münster (1840). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Loxonema priscum by Whidborne (1891), Whidborne (1892), Whidborne (1896), Tolmachoff (1930) and Amler and Heidelberger (2003); it was recombined as Loxonema prisca by Jux and Krath (1974); it was recombined as Mesocoelia priscum by Wagner (2023).
