Fusulina complicata was named by Schellwien (1898).

It was recombined as Dutkevitchia complicata by Leven and Shcherbovich (1978) and Forke (2002); it was misspelled as Dutkevichia complicata by Kobayashi and Altiner (2008); it was recombined as Rugosofusulina complicata by Wang et al. (2018).
