Taxonomy
Cytheropteron (Eocytheropteron) was named by Alexander (1933) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo T Plio-u Sepkoski's reference number: 74]. It is extant. It was considered unknown by Müller (1894).

It was reranked as Eocytheropteron by Müller (1894), Howe and Garrett (1934), Sepkoski (2002) and Babinot and Colin (2011).

It was assigned to Cytheruridae by Müller (1894); to Cytheropteron by Alexander (1933); to Cytheridae by Howe and Garrett (1934); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cytheropterinae by Babinot and Colin (2011).
