Eucythere was named by Brady (1868) [Sepkoski's age data: K Vala R Sepkoski's reference number: 167]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Eucytheridae.

It was assigned to Cytheridae by Alexander (1934); to Eucytheridae by Blaszyk (1987); to Eucytherinae by Ayress (1995); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
