Serpula pusilla was named by Geinitz (1848).

It was recombined as Spirillina pusilla by King (1856); it was recombined as Trochammina pusilla by Jones et al. (1869); it was recombined as Ammodiscus pusillus by Chapman (1895); it was recombined as Agathammina pusilla by Pattison (1970).
