Glorianella was named by Schneider (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Olen-u Tr Ladi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 674]. Its type is Glorianella efforta.

It was assigned to Cytheridae by Schneider (1956); to Limnocytheridae by Whatley and Boomer (2000); and to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002).
