Chauliodites helveticus was named by Heer (1877). It is an impression. Its type locality is Mythen-Berg, which is in a Carnian terrestrial claystone in the Keuper Formation of Switzerland.
It was recombined as Pseudochauliodites helveticus by Handlirsch (1906).
