Taxonomy
Columbella gibberula was named by Sowerby (1832) [TYPE SPECIMEN: Lectotype used as the type specimen.]. It is extant. Its type specimen is BMNH 1966308/1, a shell.

It was recombined as Columbella (Strombina) gibberula by Tryon (1882); it was recombined as Strombina gibberula by Dall (1909), Keen (1958) and Hertlein (1972); it was recombined as Strombina (Strombina) gibberula by Keen (1971); it was recombined as Sincola (Dorsina) gibberula by Jung (1989).
