Taxonomy
Ammonites listeri was named by Sowerby (1812). It is the type species of Gastrioceras.

It was considered a nomen nudum by Martin (1809); it was recombined as Gastrioceras listeri by Smith (1903), Plummer and Scott (1937), Muir-Wood and Stubblefield (1951) and Korn et al. (2021).
