Taxonomy
Goniatites hathawayana was named by McChesney (1860). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Salle, which is in a Moscovian carbonate limestone in Illinois.
It was recombined as Glyphioceras hathawayanum by Smith (1903); it was recombined as Sagittoceras hathawayanum by Plummer and Scott (1937).
