Birgeria acuminata
Taxonomy
Saurichthys acuminatus was named by Agassiz (1843). Its type specimen is BRSUG 7976 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Rhaetic Bone Bed, Aust Cliff, which is in a Rhaetian coastal conglomerate in the Westbury Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Severnichthys acuminatus by Storrs (1994); it was recombined as Birgeria acuminata by Stensiö (1921), Duffin and Gazdzicki (1977), Bürgin and Furrer (1992), Diependaal and Reumer (2021) and de Lange et al. (2023).
