Harpalus liasinus was named by Giebel (1856). It is an impression. Its type locality is Aust Cliff, Insect layer (Brodie collection), which is in a Rhaetian estuary/bay limestone in the Cotham Formation of the United Kingdom.
It was recombined as Dinoharpalus liasinus by Handlirsch (1906).
