Taxonomy
Plesiosuchus was named by Owen (1884).

It was synonymized subjectively with Dakosaurus by Delair (1958) and Young et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Geosaurini by Young et al. (2012), Young et al. (2013) and Young (2013); and to Geosaurinae by Parrilla-Bel and Canudo (2015).
