Taxonomy
Palaeolophinae was named by Malchus (1990). It is the type subfamily of Palaeolophidae. It was considered paraphyletic by Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Palaeolophidae by Cooper (2002); and to Arctostreidae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Carter et al. (2011).
