Cassianoididae was named by Newell and Boyd (1995).

It was reranked as the subfamily Cassianoidinae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Aviculopectinoidea by Newell and Boyd (1995); and to Heteropectinidae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Carter et al. (2011).
