Cultellidae was named by Davies (1935) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5190]. It is extant.
It was considered an invalid subgroup of Pharidae by Bouchet et al. (2010); it was reranked as the subfamily Cultellinae by Carter et al. (2011).
It was assigned to Solenacea by Vokes (1980) and Ward and Blackwelder (1987); to Solenoidea by Nevesskaja (2009); and to Pharidae by Carter et al. (2011).
