Taxonomy
Peltopleurus kneri was named by Woodward (1895). Its type specimen is BMNH P.1099a, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Raibl, Carinthia (Egerton collection), which is in a Julian basinal (carbonate) limestone in Italy.
