Praepilatina was named by Polenova (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid P Dora Sepkoski's reference number: 140,648]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Praepilatininae.
It was assigned to Praepilatininae by Kozur (1985); to Podocopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bairdiocyprididae by Crasquin (2008).
