Taxonomy
Petalodus jewetti was named by Miller (1957). Its type specimen is KUMVP 9972, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry in northwestern Franklin County, which is in a Gzhelian carbonate limestone in the Oread Formation of Kansas.
