Taxonomy
Pecten valoniensis was named by Defrance (1825).

It was recombined as Chlamys valoniensis by Newton (1923) and Yin and McRoberts (2006); it was recombined as Chlamys (Chlamys) valoniensis by Aberhan (1998); it was recombined as Praechlamys valoniensis by Damborenea (2002) and Damborenea (2012).
